Hill’s Daluwatta makes mas­sive impact in first game

SURANGA Daluwatta made his first ap­pear­ance of the sea­son for Ley Hill on Satur­day and made an im­me­di­ate impact, bowl­ing 9.4 overs and tak­ing 4-6 in a daz­zling spell.

Op­po­nents Braden­ham were in trou­ble in the very first over when Craig Ot­t­away, who went on to take 2-15, struck with only his sec­ond ball, be­fore the Hill were helped by two run outs – one a di­rect hit on the stumps from the bound­ary by Dou­glas Petrie.

Braden­ham had been reduced to 62-6 by the time Daluwatta en­tered the fray and he helped mop up the tail and bowl them out for 98.

In re­ply, Hill’s open­ers, Ol­lie Runswick (50no) and Craig Peter­son (31) shared an opening stand of 79 be­fore Justin Hutchins (14no) came in to score the fi­nal runs needed.

The 2nds had a tremen­dous vic­tory away at Prest­wood, where they had col­lapsed to 61-5 be­fore Ghu­lam Mustapha and Kevin Phillips shared a sev­enth wicket stand of 103 – with Phillips only get­ting 14 of them.

Mustapha hit the bowlers all over the place with six fours and 11 sixes to end on a to­tal of 106 as the Hill posted 192-9, with Naj Riaz tak­ing 3-23 and John Humpreys 2-32 for Prest­wood.

Riaz then top scored for Prest­wood with an at­tack­ing 34, while Ross Davies made 22, be­fore both fell to in-form Michael Mor­ris, who took 3-26. With Mike Adams also tak­ing 3-43, and Phillips chip­ping in with 2-1 in nine balls at the end, Prest­wood were all out for 98.

Else­where in Divi­sion One, Chal­lon­ers lost to Wad­des­don by 88 runs, while back in the Pre­mier, Hawridge & Choles­bury lost by 90 runs to Monks Ris­bor­ough.
