VOLUNTEERS CEL­E­BRATE 2,000 YEARS OF SER­VICE

A CHE­SHAM-BASED char­ity cel­e­brated 2,000 years worth of ser­vice from its ded­i­cated volunteers last week.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, Workaid, in Townsend Road, Che­sham, pre­sented a num­ber of its volunteers with their long-ser­vice awards.

In all 183 volunteers were pre­sented with cer­tifi­cates for be­tween five and 30 years ser­vice.

The num­ber of years racked up by the char­ity’s volunteers amounts to in ex­cess of 2,000 years.

Workaid, which re­ceived The Queen’s Award for Vol­un­tary Ser­vice ear­lier this year, re­lies on the en­thu­si­asm of more than 200 volunteers to help it meet its mis­sion of help­ing peo­ple out of poverty.

The char­ity is al­ways open to new volunteers.

Claire Pop­ple from Workaid said: “We’re al­ways look­ing for volunteers to join our happy teams in the shop, re­fur­bish­ing tools, sewing ma­chines, knit­ting ma­chines, type­writ­ers, pack­ing or in the of­fice.”
