VOLUNTEERS CELEBRATE 2,000 YEARS OF SERVICE
A CHESHAM-BASED charity celebrated 2,000 years worth of service from its dedicated volunteers last week.
As part of Volunteers’ Week, Workaid, in Townsend Road, Chesham, presented a number of its volunteers with their long-service awards.
In all 183 volunteers were presented with certificates for between five and 30 years service.
The number of years racked up by the charity’s volunteers amounts to in excess of 2,000 years.
Workaid, which received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service earlier this year, relies on the enthusiasm of more than 200 volunteers to help it meet its mission of helping people out of poverty.
The charity is always open to new volunteers.
Claire Popple from Workaid said: “We’re always looking for volunteers to join our happy teams in the shop, refurbishing tools, sewing machines, knitting machines, typewriters, packing or in the office.”
