PEO­PLE waved their Union flags as they cel­e­brated the Queen’s 90th birthday at a con­cert or­gan­ised by Amer­sham Town Coun­cil in the Me­mo­rial Gar­dens in Old Amer­sham on Sun­day af­ter­noon. The Amer­sham Mu­sic Cen­tre opened the event be­fore vo­cal­ist Vanessa Bow­ers and pi­anist She­lia Cor­nall doc­u­mented the Queen’s life through song.

This was fol­lowed by a Royal Bri­tish Le­gion ser­vice and the Ayles­bury Con­cert Band then played the fi­nal set, which cul­mi­nated in a ‘last night at the Proms’ fi­nale with flag wav­ing and singing.

The con­cert, was in aid De­men­tia UK, and closed with a dove re­lease.

Cream teas were avail­able through­out the af­ter­noon and mem­bers of the Amer­sham So­ci­ety served cakes.

Amer­sham Town Coun­cil also of­fi­cially opened the 2016 Me­mo­rial Gar­dens dis­play at the event, which in­cludes a three me­tre high crown and a flo­ral stamp.
