PEOPLE waved their Union flags as they celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday at a concert organised by Amersham Town Council in the Memorial Gardens in Old Amersham on Sunday afternoon. The Amersham Music Centre opened the event before vocalist Vanessa Bowers and pianist Shelia Cornall documented the Queen’s life through song.
This was followed by a Royal British Legion service and the Aylesbury Concert Band then played the final set, which culminated in a ‘last night at the Proms’ finale with flag waving and singing.
The concert, was in aid Dementia UK, and closed with a dove release.
Cream teas were available throughout the afternoon and members of the Amersham Society served cakes.
Amersham Town Council also officially opened the 2016 Memorial Gardens display at the event, which includes a three metre high crown and a floral stamp.
