Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY HONOURS -

JENNIFER Ann Gray has been made an MBE for her involvement in synchronised swimming in various capacities – a swimmer, a coach – for over 50 years.

She is the first person in her sport to receive any sort of honour, which she described as amazing.

“It’s an honour for the sport,” she said. “To be honoured in this way personally and for the sport is absolutely amazing. I’m thrilled to bits about it.”

66-year-old Mrs Gray, who lives in New Road, Marlow Bottom, said she has known about the award for about six weeks and that it has been a struggle to keep it quiet, which she said has been the hardest thing.

She said: “I was shocked when it came through and I’m just very excited about it because it’s the 90th birthday honours, which is special.”

She has also been a judge for the sport, judging competitions all over the world, and said she has been ‘doing an awful lot of work for them’.
