Get ready for the grand don­key derby

AN EVENT dubbed ‘more ex­cit­ing than the Grand Na­tional and the Olympics rolled to­gether’ is all set to ride into Bucks this week­end.

On Satur­day the 17th an­nual Bea­cons­field Don­key Derby comes to town and this year sees the in­tro­duc­tion of an Olympic theme.

An Olympic torch pa­rade open­ing cer­e­mony will be­gin the rac­ing along with Olympics in­spired sports chal­lenges and or­gan­is­ers say it will be a great day out for all the fam­ily.

It will be held at St Mary and All Saints School, Maxwell Road from noon un­til 3.30pm.

En­try costs £2.00 which in­cludes a race pro­gramme and chil­dren go free.

The star at­trac­tion, don­key rac­ing with Tote Bet­ting, will fea­ture seven races with seven don­keys which take place at half hour in­ter­vals, start­ing at 12.30, with don­keys rid­den bare­back by jock­ettes.

The spe­cial Olympic sports chal­lenges for 2016 in­clude long jump, netball, golf, play­ball, tug of war, Wim­ble­don ten­nis warmup and Wy­combe Wan­der­ers foot­ball.

Fun at­trac­tions for chil­dren in­clude in­flat­able bouncy cas­tles, Stage­coach dance lessons, a find the don­key competition, a don­key hunt, a fire en­gine, a tombola and raf­fle and com­mu­nity first re­sponse.

There will also be lots of side shows, stalls and other at­trac­tions for chil­dren of all ages, in­clud­ing hook-aduck, roll the dice, lucky cups, play your cards right, nails and tat­toos, don­key pat, don­key splash, don­key snap, strong man striker, tar­get prac­tice, henna hand paint­ing and the queens nose.

Food and re­fresh­ments will con­sist of a bar­be­cue with a bar tent sell­ing beers, lagers and Pimms. A tuck stall and cake stall will pro­vide snacks and there will be a tea and coffe and soft drinks stalls.

The event is or­gan­ised jointly by St Mary and All Saints School PTA and the Bea­cons­field Lions Club and is spon­sored by lo­cal busi­nesses and Hamp­tons In­ter­na­tional.

All Pro­ceeds are in aid of St Mary and All Saints School, Bea­cons­field Lions Club and lo­cal char­i­ties.
