MP for Chesham & Amersham will be voting leave
EVERYONE should vote in the Referendum on June 23.
It is the first time people can express their views on our relationship with Europe since 1975. But what we voted for then is not what we got.
I urge people to vote Leave, so that we can take back control and elected UK politicians can again act in the best interests of our citizens. We should not allow ourselves to be limited by being part of a European Union where our powers are diminishing and more burdens are being piled on our businesses when they should be free to react rapidly to the digital global economy.
Regional trading blocks are concepts of the past.
Globalisation and technology such as internet shopping and modern shipping methods are opening up the growing markets we need to trade with and they are outside Europe. We are the world’s fifth largest economy, equipped and ready to trade with the whole world, not merely one narrow part of it. We need to regain control of our own laws, institutions, commerce and regulatory safeguards, in the same way we kept our own currency.
Nothing in the debates have led me to doubt that we would not eventually flourish more than ever outside the EU.
Indeed, it would put us in a stronger position.
Control of our borders will strengthen security and we would not have to give up our seat at the United Nations (already threatened by “the EU Commission) or NATO which maintains our defence.
The EU will still want our goods, services, financial expertise and our trade.
By voting Leave, we regain power over our own destiny and democracy and win back our independence.
