Sodden fields put paid to annual steam fair

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

Chiltern Traction Engine Club’s Chiltern Steam Rally, which was due to take place in Honor End Lane, Prestwood, on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3 has been cancelled due to waterlogged fields.

The event was last cancelled in 2012 for the same reason.

In a statement on the club’s website, the Chiltern Traction Engine Club’s committee said: “It is with great regret to announce that this year’s Chiltern Traction Engine Club’s rally is to be cancelled.

“After a long discussions between the committee and land owners, it was felt that the risk was too high due to the site being totally saturated with all of the rain we have had here in the Chilterns over the past few months.

“The tough decision was made as a result of the last cancelled rally four years ago when the site was wrecked when vehicles and engines had to be recovered and this took many months for nature and contractors to repair it back to grazing land.”

“We would like to apologise again for this inconvenience and thank you all for your support and look forward to see you again at next year’s rally on the Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2 2017.”

The committee has asked people to spread the word about this year’s event being cancelled.

The Chiltern Traction Engine Club was founded in 1961, to bring people together interested in preservation of historic vehicles and many more.

The first event Chiltern Steam Rally was held in Chartridge End Farm, Chesham, on the June 30, 1962.
