Golden line-up for BeckyFest
Family-friendly festival will showcase a wealth of homegrown musical talent
The launch of BeckyFest – a new family-friendly event at Beaconsfield High School on July 15 – has everyone talking as the school looks to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The inaugural event came about as the head and governors were keen to find a way to thank the community for their support.
The line-up boasts top talent, including headliner Ben McKelvey fresh of the back of an arena tour supporting 80s favourites Wet, Wet, Wet playing a hometown show, especially after we’ve been on the road this year all around the country.
He said: “I’m really excited to play BeckyFest. It’s local for me and my band so it’s great to be “We’ll be playing some new songs from my album that came out earlier this year too. A lot of the bands on the bill that night I’ve had the pleasure of playing with before, so it will be good to see some old friends. Should be a great night.”
Also on the bill is the school’s own Connie Craven, who left the school last year and has joined forces with talented guitarist, Charlie Sinclair, to form the SugarHouse band.
Connie said: “We’re both so excited to play at BeckyFest. There have been countless memories set in Becky High, so it’s going to be such a nostalgic day for me, and I expect for a few others.
“I saw Running Guns with my old band about a year ago, so I’m excited to see them again and I’m thrilled Ben McKelvey’s playing.”
Also on the bill are Oli Coates, The Running Guns, Salt, The Makarov Scheme, Steph Willis, Legacy and Strike One.
The festival will also feature face-painting, henna tattooing, giant inflatable obstacle course, a barbecue and bar.
As part of the 50th birthday celebrations the school has also planned a reunion on Saturday September 17 for staff and former pupils.
Headteacher Rachel Smith said: “I feel very privileged to be part of these celebrations.
“This is an opportunity not only to look back with fondness but also to look forward to the future.
“Already the school has undergone major refurbishment this year – new roofs, new internal lighting, new hall windows and soon, a brand new reception area transforming the front entrance to the school.
“Alongside the many ways to celebrate, we are building three new science laboratories to help support the superb learning in this school.
“We can’t wait to share our good fortune with our former students and all of those families who have been, will be or remain part of this remarkable school.”
