It’s faster, higher, stronger for don­keys

Olympic theme for Bea­cons­field’s an­nual day of fun and races

The 17th an­nual Bea­cons­field Don­key Derby took place on Satur­day (June 25) and this year the event had the in­tro­duc­tion of an Olympic theme.

An Olympic torch pa­rade open­ing cer­e­mony opened the rac­ing along with Olympics in­spired sports chal­lenges.

The star at­trac­tion, don­key rac­ing with Tote Bet­ting, saw seven races with seven don­keys which took place at half hour in­ter­vals with don­keys rid­den bare­back by young­sters.

The spe­cial Olympic sports chal­lenges for 2016 in­cluded long jump, net­ball, golf, play­ball, tug of war, Wim­ble­don ten­nis warm-up and Wy­combe Wan­der­ers foot­ball.

Fun at­trac­tions for chil­dren in­cluded bouncy cas­tles, Stage­coach dance lessons, a find the don­key com­pe­ti­tion, a don­key hunt, a fire en­gine, a tom­bola, raf­fle and more

There was also lots of side shows and stalls in­clud­ing hook-a-duck, roll the dice, lucky cups, play your cards right, nails and tat­toos, don­key pat, don­key splash, don­key snap, strong man striker, tar­get prac­tice and henna hand paint­ing.

Food and re­fresh­ments were also on of­fer in­clud­ing a beer tent and bar­be­cue.

The event was or­gan­ised jointly by St Mary and All Saints School PTA and the Bea­cons­field Lions Club and was spon­sored by lo­cal busi­nesses and Hamp­tons In­ter­na­tional.

All Pro­ceeds are in aid of St Mary and All Saints School, Bea­cons­field Lions Club and lo­cal char­i­ties.
