Man Clan class shines through at charity tournament
THE inaugural Chesham Netball Club Mixed Tournament raised £922 to go towards the club’s future and Chesham Rugby Club’s clubhouse fundraising on Saturday.
Not even a gloomy forecast could dampen the spirits, and the clouds even stayed away long enough for the teams to turn out in bright sunshine at Chiltern Hills Academy.
Ten teams entered, varying from friends throwing a team together to Man Clan, the English Netball National Premier League Two side, based in High Wycombe.
The pool stages saw each team play four matches, all of which were closely contested and the top two from each group went through to the semi finals.
There, Man Clan beat Ninja Warriors and Flappy Chappies, captained by Chesham RFC’s first team captain Jack Davies, beat Ladyboys, to go through to the final.
Man Clan surged ahead in the first half to take a 5-1 lead, but Davies rallied his troops and they managed to pull it back to 5-5 immediately after the break, with their 6ft 4ins goal shooter finally finding his range.
This used all their energy though, and Man Clan’s consistency shone through as they pulled ahead to win 9-6 and be crowned champions.
