Triple success for goalkeeper academy
South American professional keeper on hand to present awards at football club’s presentation day
The King’s Church Football Club, in Amersham, held its end of season presentation day recently.
Founder of the Aaron West Goalkeeping Academy Dax West, together with special guest Mikhael Jamez Ruiz, a wellknown goalkeeper from Venezuela, presented the Aaron West Goalkeeper’s trophy at the event.
Ms West said: “To our surprise, we had three goalkeepers come up to the stage. And another surprise, and the pride that followed, was that they all attended the Aaron West Goalkeeping Academy.
“The coaches at King’s Church Football Club put forward why their goalkeeper in each age team should be nominated for the award (ages seven to 16). All three were at a high standard and they could not just nominate one.
“Not only that, all the boys first names were Nathan and all attended Aaron’s training.
“It was a very proud moment for me as Aaron’s mum on that stage.”
Aaron West, a former Amersham School Pupil, was a very talented young goalkeeper who had a vision and dream of being a goalkeeping coach.
At an early age, Aaron being a football fanatic and having a huge passion for goalkeeping, noticed that goalkeepers in the local area playing at grass roots level did not get access to specialist coaching.
Aaron then decided to make this his mission to set academy for up an academy that would allow all goalkeepers access to coaching.
In February 2010, at the age of 16, Aaron was diagnosed with Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Pulmonary Metastases, which is a rare form of liver cancer.
Aaron’s dream and a vision continued to be his main focus of what he wanted in life and throughout his illness.
Sadly, eight months after diagnosis, Aaron died at the age of 16 in October 2010. However, Aaron’s dream became a reality when the Aaron West Goalkeeping Academy opened.
