Hill 2nds in cru­cial bat­tle to save face

The Hill’s in­nings started badly, with Sam Bug­den out for five, but Rus­sell Thomp­son (32) and Ron Hed­ley (25) added 55 be­fore a bowl­ing change saw Thomp­son dis­missed with the new bowler’s first ball and Telford with his fourth.

Hed­ley was then bril­liantly run out by a di­rect throw and the Hill in­nings was in tat­ters. Ala­stir Rae added 22, but it was left to the lower or­der to bat out for a draw, as Hill fin­ished on 159-8.

It was not good news for the first team ei­ther, who lost by 145 runs to Bray­wood in Di­vi­sion One, de­spite Vi­jay Natara­jan’s 4-54, but Great King­shill moved away from the dan­ger zone af­ter beat­ing Chal­font St Giles 2nds by four wick­ets, Mark Macken­zie-Crooks hit­ting 55 and Ge­orge Las­seter tak­ing 3-19.

Mike Wid­dow­son, who took all 10 wick­ets in a game two weeks ago, claimed 5-45 this time as Knotty Green went top of Di­vi­sion Three with a five-wicket win over Coleshill 2nds, but The Lee lost by 15 runs to Lit­tle Mar­low.

Bot­tom side Den­ham won their first game of the sea­son at the 10th at­tempt in Di­vi­sion One, beat­ing Lit­tlewick Green by one wicket, but are still 19 points adrift of sec­ond­bot­tom Coleshill, who held on for a draw against Chal­font St Giles, for whom Chris Cross took 5-35.
