REVEREND THORPE HAS BEEN OUR ROCK MARY PHILLIPS On behalf of the leaders and trustees of The Rock
THE Rock is a small group of people who have been meeting together as a church in Chalfont St Giles for the past 11 years to learn about God’s love for us and the Christian way of living, and to love and care for each other as family.
During that time Reverend Ian Thorpe has led us in worship, prayer and teaching, and supported us – and the rest of the village – pastorally.
Ian’s wife, Jenny, has been “mum” to all.
It is with great sadness that this small congregation has arrived at the point where we are unable to support Rev and Mrs Thorpe financially beyond the next few months.
Rev Thorpe will therefore be made redundant and his period of notice will start at the end of June.
Ian will be a visible presence in the village for some time after that to visit, chat, and offer pastoral support, but in order to free him to be able to look for new employment elsewhere, he will conduct his last service at The Rock on Sunday July 17.
It is envisaged that there will be a farewell party sometime in September.
Those of us who remain at The Rock will obviously feel this loss keenly, but we will be supporting each other as God’s family, seeking to serve and support the local community as best we can, and will continue to offer a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us in what we see as a new adventure.
While we seek the way forward, the pattern of our meetings may vary, so please phone Mary Phillips on 01494 874681 for more information. You can also visit our website www.rockcsg.org or follow us on twitter – TheRock@TheRockcsg.
