A NAIL-BITING finish which went down to the final end saw Chalfont St Giles Bowls Club win their Chiltern & Thames League encounter at Marlow by two shots – with Ian McCleod, Denise Williams and Nick Nicholls bowling the best rink.

There was also a 69-33 Chiltern & Thames win over Glory Mill that proved to be a much more one-sided contest, in which Hazel Baker, Graham Buchanan and Mike Alderton romped home for the top rink.

The ladies had a mixed week, staying on course for a Burnham Plate quarter final berth with a win over Amersham courtesy of Chris Moir, Lyn Carroll, Liz Baldwin and Mo Harding, but lost narrowly over two legs to Stoke Poges in the Vi Trundell.

They also lost a friendly 69-47 to Gerrards Cross, where the best effort was a drawn rink from Baker, Flora Alderton and Margaret Timberlake, while a Chalfont team put together at short notice exited the Thames Valley League 1-2-3 competition following a defeat to Denham in all three formats. Meanwhile, Morgan Kavanagh

(pictured) was not the first Chalfont player to have played in the County U25s, as stated last week.

Previous entrants include current club sponsor and one-time junior member, Robert Cartmell, who played during the early days of the club.
