Rocking: The Running Guns were among the perfomers at Beckyfest, a music festival held as part of Beaconsfield High School’s 50th anniversary celebrations

NEARLY 700 music fans flocked to a festival celebrating the 50th birthday of Beaconsfield High School.

And to the delight and surprise of organisers Beckyfest, which was held on Friday July 15, they even managed to raise around £2,500.

Held to commemorate the anniversary and say thank you to the community for their support over half a century, the event saw a number of acts – including Ben McKelvey, fresh off the back of a tour supporting Wet Wet Wet – perform to crowds in spite of the rain.

Music royalty was also in the crowd with Matt Aitken of the Stock, Aitken Waterman 1980s songwriting trio spotted in the crowd, along with a songwriter for pop star Pixie Lott.

Organiser and parent Michelle Slater, said it was ‘brilliant’ and ‘really, really well supported’.

She added: “I think everyone really enjoyed it. We had a great time and we made a bit of money, which we hadn’t expected to.”

The artists, she said, all enjoyed it as did the girls, who were won over after being initially cynical when they first heard the school was putting on the performance.

“I had people come up to me and say thank you for it,” she added. “We did really, really well.”
