FESTIVAL fans flocked in their thousands to the sixth annual PennFest.

A capacity crowd of 10,000 saw grime star Dizzee Rascal end the festival, held in The Big Park, Horsemoor Lane, on Saturday, with 90s Britpop legends Ocean Colour Scene headlining the Friday night.

Organisers were delighted to announce the festival was sold out on the Saturday via their Facebook page as hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks took to the stage.

They wrote: “Pennfest 2016 is officially sold out – 10,000 inside the arena.”

The sell-out crowd was also in for a treat weather wise with glorious sunshine all weekend, and meant revellers were not treated to any Glastonbury style downpours.

The line up featured a raft of past and present musical legends, such as De La Soul, Reef, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Black Grape, along with rockney pioneers Chas and Dave.

Social media has been awash with people congratulating the organisers on yet another successful festival, with people taking to both Twitter and Facebook to say how much fun they had.

On the official Facebook page Speedie Crissie Gonzalez wrote: “Had such a great time with my 11-year-old boy.

“Hired a bell tent #wowtents and was really looked after, despite no water loss. Security and stewards kept us safe and were really friendly too. Definitely see another year.”

Jo Heyburn wrote: “It was fantastic, brilliant weekend, well staffed and managed. We camped and found it much safer than big festivals – definitely in for next year.”

Matt Street, who said it was a ‘good call’ that the festival sold Rebellion Ale, added: “Well done. I went on the Friday with family and we all had a great time.

“Loved De La Soul. A pity that Reef weren’t given longer and given the size of the crowd on the tent they could have easily played the main stage.

“Look forward to next year’s line up.”

And Gareth Nunn thought the atmosphere was ‘epic’.

On Twitter Glenn Hearsey wrote: “Fantastic day at @PennFestival with @SmallBaboons and @ keithypie7. Shed Seven the highlight, Reef great too.”

PeterHarte - @ phmortgagebrain – Tweeted: “Rolling back the years tonight @ PennFestival Shed7, De La soul, Fun Loving Criminals @OfficialHuey, Ocean Colour Scene and a beer or three.”
