NEW BUSINESS IS A SWEEPING SUCCESS

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - FRONT PAGE -

Vicki Romero, who admits her favourite film is Mary Poppins, has become her own Bert by launching Mrs Sweep - The Professional Female Chimney Sweep.

Mrs Romero, 42, from Winchmore Hill, was a case manager for 17 years but after a while yearned for a new challenge and is now trained and has become a fully certified chimney sweep.

She said: “I’m just really wanting to get out of the office environment.

“I really wanted to do something different. I wanted to work for myself and I wanted to be out and about meeting people.”

Mrs Romero started to look around for new careers with her husband and were inspired to look into chimney sweeping after having to wait nearly three months for one to come to their own house.

“I thought, how many people would prefer a woman to do it?” she said.

She added: “I contacted a lady in Manchester and she said you won’t look back and you will be really sought after.”

Having done it on a part time basis for a while, she said her favourite part it is ‘going round meeting people’.

But just how many people use chimneys nowadays? A lot, according to Mrs Romero: “Round my area there are lots. log burners are really fashionable now and a lot of places have big burners.

“I’ve done a lot of inglenooks already.”

She added: “I thought it was really nice and I thought that there aren’t many female sweeps around. I can do a job just as well as a male sweep can.”

And Mrs Romero has not looked back: “I love it, I absolutely love it. I was very nervous about it and I said to my husband it just seems really weird, and he said it’s a completely different environment. The support has been amazing.” Visit www.mrs-sweep.com/
