HOSTS Chesham Bowls Club were twice winners at the Buckinghamshire County Finals over the weekend, beating opponents from Hazells both time.

The ladies triple of Charlene Turpie, Terri Keen and Lin Wright won 21-11, while Peter Horton triumphed 21-17 in the unbadged singles to follow in the footsteps of Chesham team-mates David Sills and Alan Cohn, who win it the previous two years.

Earlier in the week, Chesham hosted Dennyside Bowling Association in a charity match which raised £2,000 for Helen & Douglas House, the chosen charity of this year’s Chesham club captains, John and Gillian Henderson.

The game itself was won by Dennyside 131-120, but Chesham did at least have a top rink of Lawrie Smethurst, Dennis Talmer, Trevor Bateman and Alan Ley (27-19).

Chesham’s ladies also drew 55-55 with Wendover, with a top rink of Coral Sills, Gill Henderson and Jean McNab (26-11), but a mixed game against Flackwell Heath ended in a 96-49 loss, in which top rink went to Brenda Waterman, Alan Turner, Malcolm Warwick and Geoff Denham (24-13).
