CHALFONT ST GILES INTO QUARTERS
THE ladies’ Burnham Plate squad at Chalfont St Giles Bowls Club have topped their group and progress to the quarter final, which will be played at home to Loudwater next Sunday.
In the Thames Valley League, Chalfont share the points with Egham despite an overall 68-49 defeat, having won both away rinks but lost both home ones, the best one belonging to Nick Nicholls, Dave Harding and Arthur Thomas.
There was a 72-44 defeat to Iver Heath in the same competition in which Chalfont managed only one winning rink – that of Mike Alderton, Tony Batkins and Rob Kirby – and took two points to Iver’s eight.
It was a similar story in the Three Counties League, where Chalfont went down 102-88 overall.
Kirby was again in the winning rink (24-13), along with Chris Moir, Lynda James and Staff Burbridge.
Kirby’s third top-scoring rink of the week was a narrow one (18-17) and came with Joyce Cripp and Colin Richards on a 110-57 friendly defeat to Berkhamsted, while Chalfont were also second best against Aylesbury Town, losing 117-78 despite Bobbie Richards, Chris Pound and Allan Rumble’s highest scoring rink (21-13).
But there was at least an 82-75 friendly win over Ladygate, in which Chalfont came from behind to claim victory, thanks in no small part to a best rink of 21-10 from Moir, Harding and Tim Baldwin.
