JEAN Oldfield and John Brooks emerged victors as Amersham Bowls Club staged their Stan Mills Mixed Pairs competition on Saturday.

Oldfield and Brooks saw off 12 pairs to claim their prize, including the beaten finalists Sheila Barber and Brian Drew.

There was double disappointment on their travels this week as both the Chiltern & Thames and Three Counties League fixtures were lost.

The latter on Sunday saw Amersham leading hosts High Wycombe by just one shot at the tea break, but thereafter home advantage began to tell and they went down 102-84.

Top rink for Amersham comprised Peter Bray, Elizabeth Gillott and David Balderson, and with another of their teams also managing a win they still took five of the 12 league points on offer.

It had been a similar story in the C&T game at Chessvale where the hosts capitalised on home advantage to win all three triples and take the game 63-34.
