Staff shocked as Co-op hit by armed rob­bers

Knife-wield­ing thieves made off with cash and cig­a­rettes but left em­ploy­ees un­harmed in raid

A gang of four men stormed into the shop in Bells Hill Green on Mon­day Au­gust 1 at around 9.40pm.

They stole cash and cig­a­rettes be­fore leav­ing. No one was hurt dur­ing the armed rob­bery.

The men were all wear­ing dark cloth­ing and had their faces cov­ered. The man with the knife was wear­ing a blue top.

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for any wit­nesses to come for­ward.

In­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer Det Sgt Tracey Ben­ham, based at Ayles­bury po­lice sta­tion, said: “We are con­duct­ing a thor­ough in­ves­ti­ga­tion into this in­ci­dent and we are pur­su­ing a num­ber of leads.

“It was very for­tu­nate that no­body was in­jured dur­ing this rob­bery and ob­vi­ously the mem­bers of staff are dis­tressed by this in­ci­dent.

“We are ap­peal­ing for any­one who has any in­for­ma­tion about this in­ci­dent, or who saw any­thing sus­pi­cious in the area at the time, to con­tact po­lice via the 24 hour non emer­gency num­ber 101.”
