Find out what it’s like to live in retirement village
CEDARS Village, a local private retirement community in leafy Chorleywood, is throwing its doors open and inviting the public to look around. Visitors are welcome to pop in between 10.30am and 1pm on Monday (15 August) to tour the grounds and facilities. They can join in with groups or activities and talk to existing residents, who enjoy fun and active social lives, to find out about retirement village life.
Cedars’ open day provides an opportunity for people who wish to know more about retirement villages to call in and experience life there for themselves.
Retirement Villages is aiming the day at potential buyers and their families, but is keen to emphasise that everyone is welcome.
Cedars Village is represented by local estate agents Binks, who will happily provide information about the village itself and available properties to anyone interested in joining the village community.
“Retirement villages in the UK are not gated like they are in America, they are very much part of their local communities,” says Cedars’ manager Colin Foulger.“So if you live nearby and would like to drop in for a chat and a cup of tea please do so, we always enjoy getting to know our neighbours.”
The heart of Cedars Village is Cedars Mansion House, a magnificently restored Grade II listed building sitting in beautiful landscaped grounds. This contains an elegant restaurant, ballroom, library, hobbies room, medical centre, snooker room, bar and Victorian conservatory.
Residents, who enjoy full access to all these facilities, live independently in the comfort of their own cottages, bungalows or apartments. There are 154 properties – located either in the Mansion House itself or in the 22 acres of surrounding manicured grounds. There is a strong, welcoming community feel in Cedars Village and plenty for residents to get involved with including local walks, a cricket ground and an area of natural woodland known as Chorleywood Common.
In addition, residents of Cedars Village enjoy a thriving social life with a busy schedule of groups, events and activities but none of these are obligatory of course.
Some people just want to live in a beautifully designed home surrounded by like-minded people. In this sense Cedars Village delivers as well!
