HUNDREDS of primary school aged children took part in a range of activities at a Christian holiday camp in Chesham.

From Tuesday, July 26 to Friday, July 29, 300 children from Chesham were given four days of busy fun with craft, dance, drama, challenges, songs and Bible teaching in marquees set up on the Thomas Harding School field as part of Backpackers 2016, which this year had the theme Food Glorious Food.

Some 200 adults and teenagers helped the children look at some of the meals that Jesus had while he was on earth.

They heard how he was happy to eat with those the society then disliked, such as tax collectors, as well as his special friends.

At the same time, 24 12 year olds were trained to lead in the young apprenticeship stream (YApps).

Each day the teenage helpers were able to attend Intentse at the end of the afternoon to have their own time of teaching with fun including a water fight and a barbecue.

One of the organisers Margaret Gingell said: “The rain mainly stayed away and the children had great fun.”

One five year old, attending for the first time, told his mother: “Backpackers is the best thing in the whole world, better even than hotdogs!”

Backpackers is organised and supported by Churches Together for Chesham.
