RENNIE Grove Hospice Care welcomes people of all ages to its 1500-strong team of dedicated volunteers who donate their time in all areas of the charity’s work.

Kelly Norways, 18, from Little Chalfont, began looking for volunteer opportunities when she enrolled in the Duke of Edinburgh (dofe) scheme four years ago.

She said: “I was especially keen to volunteer for Rennie Grove because I know that as a local charity it is very dependent on funding from the local community, making the work of the charity shops particularly important.

“I always felt very supported as a volunteer in the Little Chalfont shop, as the managers were always very understanding and flexible if I had school commitments or other clashes with my regular shift.

“When I introduced a friend to the shop they kindly made sure that we could volunteer on the same day. They were also really efficient dofe assessors, writing my reports quickly and in lots of detail.

“It’s very easy to sign up simply because you know you need something to put on your dofe form, but actually the charity comes to hold a special significance for you. I had not anticipated feeling compelled to continue volunteering once I had completed my award, but when the time came I was certain that I wanted to stay – and I’m really glad I did. I came to feel that I was a part of the shop community and that the work I was doing was making a difference. Now Rennie Grove will always be special to me.”

If you are a student or pupil in years 10 to 13, Rennie Grove can offer you varied work experience in one of its 24 charity shops for the hours you have available, whether you would like to help full time for one week or for a few hours one day a week during holidays.

You will learn about window dressing, stock rotation and control, customer service, merchandising and electronic tills.

Just pop into your local shop and speak to the manager or contact the charity’s Volunteer Services Team by emailing volunteer@renniegrove. org.
