Leading role for Jessica
A STUDENT from Farnham Common is celebrating after she was announced as head girl for 2016-17 at one of the leading independent schools in Berkshire.
Jessica Tipping, 18, was awarded the honour of being head girl at LVS Ascot’s President’s Day on Thursday in front of the Mayor of Bracknell, councillor Tony Virgo.
Mr Virgo was at the Platform Party, as the 700 senior school and sixth form pupils and families gathered to recognise and reward the hard work and successes of the past academic year.
The ceremony marked the end of a year which began with excellent exam results and subsequently saw sporting victory in national competitions, a series of sell-out performances of the school production Fame, and individual successes such as a memory expert pupil taking part in a show on Chinese TV and a talented young artist having work displayed in the Tate Modern gallery.
Jessica said: “I have been at LVS Ascot since Year 7 and always wanted to be head girl.
“The school has offered so many opportunities and events to build us up and I am grateful for the chance to give something back.
With LVS Ascot being an all-through school for pupils from four to 18 there will be lots of opportunities to help younger students and give our experience to them”.
LVS Ascot’s outgoing head boy said: “LVS Ascot is an amazing school. Being non-selective there is such a wide range of pupils here, and the school caters to so many strengths across academic subjects, sport and creative subjects that there are always opportunities to learn from teachers and your peers in all areas.”
After the ceremony families moved outside to a barbecue and live jazz to round off the year.
Principal Christine Cunniffe said: “Jessica is a fine example of our aim to create outstanding individuals by promoting social, communication and interpersonal skills.
“She thoroughly deserves the head girl role which will allow her to gain leadership experience throughout the next year.”
