CHE­SHAM: AN au­thor is hold­ing a short story writ­ing work­shop in aid of char­ity next month.

Mar­garet Gra­ham, who runs the Writ­ers and Scrib­blers group in Che­sham, is the founder and ad­min­is­tra­tor of Words for the Wounded, which raises money via writ­ing prizes, events and do­na­tions to help wounded ser­vice­men and women.

The char­ity is hold­ing a short story writ­ing work­shop in Down­ley Com­mu­nity Cen­tre. Old School Close, Down­ley, on Satur­day, Septem­ber 24 from 10am to 4.30pm.

The work­shop will en­able bud­ding writ­ers to get grounded in the ba­sics of short story struc­ture and dis­cover how to tar­get your mar­ket.

It is suit­able for be­gin­ners and for ex­pe­ri­enced writ­ers keen to ex­plore short story writ­ing. Net­work­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties will be avail­able over lunch, which can be bought at a pub nearby, or peo­ple can bring their own.

Mar­garet Gra­ham’s a best sell­ing au­thor, short story and fea­ture writer.

She is a cre­ative writ­ing tu­tor, men­tor, ed­i­tor and also con­tribut­ing ed­i­tor for Frost Mag­a­zine. The work­shop costs £45. All pro­ceeds go to char­ity. AMER­SHAM: Amer­sham Art Group has or­gan­ised for a wa­ter­colour demo by a pro­fes­sional lo­cal wa­ter­colour artist to take place next week.

Gor­don King will give the demon­stra­tion on Tues­day, Septem­ber 6 at 7.30pm in The Lounge, Amer­sham Com­mu­nity Cen­tre.

Non-mem­bers are wel­come for a £4 en­trance fee which in­cludes tea/ cof­fee.

The group’s new 2016/2017 pro­gramme has also been an­nounced.

CHE­SHAM: Che­sham En­vi­ron­men­tal Group is hold­ing a work­ing party next month.

On Septem­ber 7, vol­un­teers will be cut­ting back veg­e­ta­tion to widen the foot­path be­hind the in­dus­trial units, off Moor Road. They will also be lit­ter pick­ing in the area. Vol­un­teers are asked to wear ap­pro­pri­ate cloth­ing and gloves. Tools, lit­ter pick­ers and black bags will be pro­vided. Meet at 10am at the open-air swim­ming pool car park in Moor Road.
