VIS­I­TORS CON­QUER AT GALA

VIS­IT­ING teams car­ried off the lau­rels as Amer­sham Bowls Club staged their Ladies In­vi­ta­tion Gala day on Fri­day.

Che­sham Bowls club were the ones to carry the day thanks to their trio of Dot Bur­gin, Pam Hooper and June Hol­land, while a team from Wen­dover took the run­ners-up spot.

Just 24 hours later Amer­sham ended their Three Coun­ties League sea­son with a 99-80 win over Chess Vale, giv­ing them eight points to their ri­vals’ four.

Phyl and Ted Chouler­ton, Brian Spicer and Diana Bas­sett led the way for Amer­sham, who won on three rinks out five, los­ing the other two by a sin­gle shot on the fi­nal end.

Ear­lier in the week the ladies won a tight three triples en­counter with Wen­dover 51-47 thanks in part to the trio Mar­garet Stick­land, El­iz­a­beth Gil­lott and Betty Steane.

PART­NER SWAP IN CUP TIES

PART­NERS ended up on op­pos­ing sides as Chal­font St Giles’ Bowls Club mem­bers com­peted for The Ju­bilee Cup on Bank Hol­i­day Mon­day.

Anne Dar­bourne teamed up with Bernard Bai­ley to con­test the fi­nal against her hus­band Roger and Bernard’s part­ner Maggie Read.

The for­mer came out on top with har­mony main­tained in both house­holds.

Ear­lier in the week, Anne Dar­bourne had fea­tured in a tied triple as CSG lost their Chiltern & Thames quar­ter-fi­nal to Mill Bowls Club.

The Bucks’ vice-pres­i­dent’s team were beaten 136-95 in the an­nual fix­ture thanks in part to a top rink of Al­lan Rum­ble, Chris Moir, Graeme Richards and Bernard Bai­ley.

CSG also emerged 92-74 vic­tors of a five triples match with Har­row BC and there were friendly wins too over Stoke Po­ges and Wex­ham.
