VISITORS CONQUER AT GALA
VISITING teams carried off the laurels as Amersham Bowls Club staged their Ladies Invitation Gala day on Friday.
Chesham Bowls club were the ones to carry the day thanks to their trio of Dot Burgin, Pam Hooper and June Holland, while a team from Wendover took the runners-up spot.
Just 24 hours later Amersham ended their Three Counties League season with a 99-80 win over Chess Vale, giving them eight points to their rivals’ four.
Phyl and Ted Choulerton, Brian Spicer and Diana Bassett led the way for Amersham, who won on three rinks out five, losing the other two by a single shot on the final end.
Earlier in the week the ladies won a tight three triples encounter with Wendover 51-47 thanks in part to the trio Margaret Stickland, Elizabeth Gillott and Betty Steane.
PARTNER SWAP IN CUP TIES
PARTNERS ended up on opposing sides as Chalfont St Giles’ Bowls Club members competed for The Jubilee Cup on Bank Holiday Monday.
Anne Darbourne teamed up with Bernard Bailey to contest the final against her husband Roger and Bernard’s partner Maggie Read.
The former came out on top with harmony maintained in both households.
Earlier in the week, Anne Darbourne had featured in a tied triple as CSG lost their Chiltern & Thames quarter-final to Mill Bowls Club.
The Bucks’ vice-president’s team were beaten 136-95 in the annual fixture thanks in part to a top rink of Allan Rumble, Chris Moir, Graeme Richards and Bernard Bailey.
CSG also emerged 92-74 victors of a five triples match with Harrow BC and there were friendly wins too over Stoke Poges and Wexham.
