Dairy very happy with gold stars
CHALFONT St Peter’s Tims Dairy has been awarded a total of five golden stars for its products at this year’s Great Taste awards.
The Great Taste Awards are held annually and sample more than 10,000 products of all kinds in the food and drink industry, striving to find the highest quality and best tasting products in the UK.
Products are blind tested by qualified judges from the sector, who give their unbiased opinions and feedback.
Unsuccessful producers are given the feedback for their products so they know where to improve for next year.
The judges award the very best products with one, two or three golden stars with the guideline being: “One star represents a simply delicious product, judged by a minimum of ten palettes. Two stars indicates an outstanding product and three stars demonstrate a product that is faultless – totally exquisite.”
One star was awarded to Tims Dairy’s buttermilk, with judges claiming it was delicious on its own as well as being wonderful for baking.
Its Soured Cream won two stars, with judges commenting that it was “rich and smooth with well judged acidity”. The cream has a mild, fresh taste and is thick set, with no added sugar.
Tims Dairy also achieved two stars for its bio-live Greek-stylenatural yogurt, which also has no added sugar.
One judge commented that it was “silky smooth yogurt, beautiful acidity, lactic notes, thick and rich”.
Tims Dairy began life in 1949 in central London, where it supplied its products to local restaurants and delis.
In 1996 they made a move to Denham Lane, Chalfont St Peter, in the foothills of the Chilterns, where all their production still takes place.
The dairy is proud of its Greek heritage, which still influences its products to this day.
Managing director Chris Timotheou said: “We know how highly respected these awards are within the industry and by consumers alike, so you can imagine how delighted we are.”
“It’s been a good year for Gold Medals all round!”
