WASPS PART OF ECOLOGICALWEB

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - OPINION -

DR PETER B BAKER Moat Lane Prestwood

CLEARLY it is not sensible to set fire to a wasps’ nest in a building (‘Sting in the Tail of a House Fire’, September 8) but the demonisation of the common or garden wasp (kill, kill, kill) is really OTT.

Of course, a small minority are liable to suffer anaphylactic shock if stung, but we don’t go around killing all bees do we?

Wasps are part of the ecological web in which we live (increasingly fragile as time goes by) and unless they are a real hazard, live and let live should be our watchword.

Undisturbed, wasps do not show a particular tendency to attack.
