A MURDER investigation has been launched after a pensioner was found dead at a house in Chesham.
Police officers were called to an address in Stoney Grove at 11.27am on Thursday September 29 where they found the body of 68-year-old Linda Harding.
A post mortem examination into the death has since proved inconclusive and a 41-yearold man from the same town who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been bailed until March 1 next year.
Neighbours have spoken of their shock after a the pensioner’s body was found.
Ms Harding was said to have been a retired teacher with at least one son.
Long-time friend Susan Cook has described her shock at the news and paid tribute to her, saying Ms Harding was a ‘nice lady’.
Ms Cook said she had known Ms Harding for more than 10 years.
She said: “I knew Linda Harding. She was a nice lady.
“That was a shock – it’s so peaceful here.
“I got on with her, she was nice.
“I’ve been here since 2005 and she must have been her five or so years before then, maybe longer I don’t know.”
She added: “She used to go down to the town in taxis and do a bit of shopping and visit her fella.
“I was so shocked. I think everyone round here is shocked because it’s such a quiet place.
“You don’t think it’s going to happen on your own doorstep do you.”
Edit Morai, a neighbour of Ms Harding said: “This is a very nice area, quiet and nice.
“Something has never happened like that.”
Further reports into Ms Hardings death have been requested which may take several months to complete.
Senior Investigating officer, Det Insp Dave Hubbard said: “I would like to continue to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident and that we are conducting a meticulous investigation to establish the cause of death.
“Our thoughts are with the family of Linda Harding at this extremely difficult time for them.
“Local residents might see an increased police presence in the area while we conduct our enquiries and a scene-watch remains in place in Stoney Grove.
