HOLMER GREEN WI
IMAGINE the situation: you are a photographer for a newspaper in the West Country, and you travel to London to try your luck at one of the national daily papers.
On your first day, you manage to scoop a photograph of Michael Jackson that noone else has! This is exactly what happened to Debbie Brady, our speaker in September. Debbie gave us a very entertaining talk on her life and trials as a photo journalist. She worked on tabloids and the Times and explained how to get that elusive photo shot, then think up a caption to catch the editor’s eye.
She demonstrated the huge amount of equipment she would have to carry around, choosing a brave volunteer to try and hold it all at once. It was very heavy! In anticipation of our forthcoming group meeting, a number of us entered the competition to make a paper aeroplane. We then had to see which one would fly the furthest! More serious things were considered at our October meeting, when we held our AGM.
Later in the evening we were treated to a slice of birthday cake and a good chat.
