Kristian following in big footsteps
KRISTIAN Tannum Donaldson, from The Buckinghamshire Golf Club in Denham, will this week be hoping to emulate the feats of European Ryder Cup stars Justin Rose and Matthew Fitzpatrick at the final of the 2016 Telegraph BMW Junior Golf Championship.
Rose and Fitzpatrick are just two of the famous players to have triumphed in the event’s 30-year history, and Donaldson will be one of 12 boys and nine girls aiming to add their names to the winners’ list at Portugal’s prestigious Quinta do Lago resort.
The 17-year-old Berks, Bucks & Oxon junior champion claimed his place in the elite line-up with an impressive six-under-par round on his way to finishing sixth in the English U18 Championship at Hunstanton Golf Club in July.
Entering its fourth decade, the prestigious 54-hole stroke play competition got under way on Monday and will run until tomorrow (Friday), with the finalists coming from all parts of the British Isles and Ireland.
Joy Johnson triumphed in Division One of the Ladies’ Stableford at Beaconsfield Golf Club with 36 points, followed by Sue Mears on 35 and Gill Thomas on 34. Susan Strawson was the Division Two winner with 33, ahead of Barbara Harwood and Rosemary Horridge, both on 32.
Big goal: Kristian Tannum Donaldson
