Kris­tian fol­low­ing in big foot­steps

KRIS­TIAN Tan­num Don­ald­son, from The Buck­ing­hamshire Golf Club in Den­ham, will this week be hop­ing to em­u­late the feats of Euro­pean Ry­der Cup stars Justin Rose and Matthew Fitz­patrick at the fi­nal of the 2016 Tele­graph BMW Ju­nior Golf Cham­pi­onship.

Rose and Fitz­patrick are just two of the fa­mous play­ers to have tri­umphed in the event’s 30-year his­tory, and Don­ald­son will be one of 12 boys and nine girls aim­ing to add their names to the win­ners’ list at Por­tu­gal’s pres­ti­gious Quinta do Lago re­sort.

The 17-year-old Berks, Bucks & Oxon ju­nior cham­pion claimed his place in the elite line-up with an im­pres­sive six-un­der-par round on his way to fin­ish­ing sixth in the English U18 Cham­pi­onship at Hun­stan­ton Golf Club in July.

En­ter­ing its fourth decade, the pres­ti­gious 54-hole stroke play com­pe­ti­tion got un­der way on Mon­day and will run un­til to­mor­row (Fri­day), with the fi­nal­ists com­ing from all parts of the Bri­tish Isles and Ire­land.

Joy John­son tri­umphed in Divi­sion One of the Ladies’ Sta­ble­ford at Bea­cons­field Golf Club with 36 points, fol­lowed by Sue Mears on 35 and Gill Thomas on 34. Su­san Straw­son was the Divi­sion Two win­ner with 33, ahead of Barbara Har­wood and Rose­mary Hor­ridge, both on 32.
