Boy of 13 ar­rested for as­sault on of­fi­cer

A 13-YEAR-OLD and a 15-year-old have been ar­rested af­ter a po­lice of­fi­cer was at­tacked and in­jured fol­low­ing a fam­ily fire­work dis­play in Chal­font St Giles.

Po­lice raced to High Street af­ter the Magic in the Sky fire­work dis­play fin­ished at around 9pm Satur­day (Novem­ber 5), to re­ports of gangs of young­sters caus­ing chaos. The youths started throw­ing bot­tles at the po­lice and an of­fi­cer was at­tacked, re­ceiv­ing mi­nor in­juries.

A 13-year-old boy from Ger­rards Cross was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of as­sault­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer. He has been bailed un­til to­day (Thurs­day Novem­ber 10).

A 15-year-old boy from Iver has also been ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of us­ing threat­en­ing/abu­sive words/be­hav­iour or dis­or­derly be­hav­iour.

Ter­ri­fied and an­gry vil­lagers took to so­cial me­dia to blast the be­hav­iour of the young­sters.

Vice chair­man of the parish coun­cil, Mary Philips, wrote on Twit­ter: “Shock hor­ror. A quiet bon­fire night turns into a mul­ti­ple ar­rest night­mare. Ter­ri­fied pun­ters flee.”

She added: “Pubs close early due to ri­ots. Bot­tles thrown, in­juries caused. Bucks top vil­lage?”

On Streetlife Jan D wrote: “At around 10.30pm I dropped my daugh­ter’s friend off. We drove up the high street and counted six po­lice vans start­ing at the pond and a sim­i­lar num­ber of po­lice cars. There were lots of po­lice walk­ing around.

“There were a few young­sters but mainly mid teens rather than in their 20s. There was a lad ly­ing on the pave­ment with po­lice hov­er­ing but the area seemed calm other than that.

“It seemed to­tally out of char­ac­ter for this area”

Michelle W said: “When my part­ner went through ear­lier, around 10pm, he de­scribed it as a riot.

“There were two groups of peo­ple throw­ing bot­tles and fire­works across the road at each other with the po­lice in the mid­dle of the road.

“Cars were un­able to get through the High Street and were do­ing Uturns”

A spokesper­son for the po­lice said: “Of­fi­cers were called at about 9pm on Satur­day (Novem­ber 5) to High Street, Chal­font St Giles, fol­low­ing re­ports of dis­or­der in­volv­ing groups of youths.

“Po­lice of­fi­cers at­tended the scene where they con­fronted by a large group, who threw bot­tles at of­fi­cers.

“Dur­ing the in­ci­dent, an of­fi­cer was as­saulted and sus­tained mi­nor in­juries.”
