Boy of 13 arrested for assault on officer
A 13-YEAR-OLD and a 15-year-old have been arrested after a police officer was attacked and injured following a family firework display in Chalfont St Giles.
Police raced to High Street after the Magic in the Sky firework display finished at around 9pm Saturday (November 5), to reports of gangs of youngsters causing chaos. The youths started throwing bottles at the police and an officer was attacked, receiving minor injuries.
A 13-year-old boy from Gerrards Cross was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. He has been bailed until today (Thursday November 10).
A 15-year-old boy from Iver has also been arrested on suspicion of using threatening/abusive words/behaviour or disorderly behaviour.
Terrified and angry villagers took to social media to blast the behaviour of the youngsters.
Vice chairman of the parish council, Mary Philips, wrote on Twitter: “Shock horror. A quiet bonfire night turns into a multiple arrest nightmare. Terrified punters flee.”
She added: “Pubs close early due to riots. Bottles thrown, injuries caused. Bucks top village?”
On Streetlife Jan D wrote: “At around 10.30pm I dropped my daughter’s friend off. We drove up the high street and counted six police vans starting at the pond and a similar number of police cars. There were lots of police walking around.
“There were a few youngsters but mainly mid teens rather than in their 20s. There was a lad lying on the pavement with police hovering but the area seemed calm other than that.
“It seemed totally out of character for this area”
Michelle W said: “When my partner went through earlier, around 10pm, he described it as a riot.
“There were two groups of people throwing bottles and fireworks across the road at each other with the police in the middle of the road.
“Cars were unable to get through the High Street and were doing Uturns”
A spokesperson for the police said: “Officers were called at about 9pm on Saturday (November 5) to High Street, Chalfont St Giles, following reports of disorder involving groups of youths.
“Police officers attended the scene where they confronted by a large group, who threw bottles at officers.
“During the incident, an officer was assaulted and sustained minor injuries.”
