Beaconsfield’s Wade challenge

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

BEACONSFIELD RFC have jokingly challenged Wasps star Christian Wade to a race with their own wing wonder, Dru Labri.

Simon Tattersall, head coach at the Oak Lodge Meadow side, last week compared the Beaconsfield flier to former the England international Wade who, like Labri, attended RGS High Wycombe.

Labri, pictured, didn’t shy away from the comparison on Saturday, scoring five tries as his side hammered Gosford All Blacks 52-10.

All of which prompted the club to tweet: ‘Thoughts @RGSHWSport ... Who was quicker at school? @ChristianWade3 or @isl345 ?!! Maybe a race-off!!’

This was later followed by: ‘Yes, but I bet @Chris tianWade3 didn’t score 5 in a match today. How about this race then @Chris tianWade3 ???’

Two of Labri’s tries against Gosford came in the first half, with Todd Mor- gan and Nick Tappin also crossing the tryline to give Beaconsfield a 26-3 halftime lead. Gosford pulled it back to 26-10 with their only try of the game, but Labri then twice combined with Sean Morgan to run in his third and fourth tries to take the game away from the visitors. His fifth was a stunning individual effort, beating several players and running the ball in from 30 yards out, before a final try late on wrapped it up for the hosts, who moved up to fourth in Southern Counties North, ahead of this Saturday’s derby at High Wycombe.

What would Amersham & Chiltern give for such a win right now? They remain marooned to the bottom of National Three London & SE after going down to a ninth straight defeat, losing 29-15 to the only other side who had been without a win – Colchester. Amersham have no game this weekend.
