CLLR PETER MARTIN, cabinet member sustainable development, Chiltern District Council CLLR NICK

NAYLOR, portfolio holder sustainable development, South Bucks District Council ALONG with councils all over the country, we are developing a local plan to meet housing and business use needs to take us up to 2036.

Chiltern and South Bucks have opted to carry out this work jointly for greater efficiency and cost savings.

When it comes to identifying suitable sites for development, both districts share the same difficulty – swathes of land lie in the green belt – about 87% – where development is extremely restricted.

Government requires us to review our green belt when developing a new local plan.

As we are unable to meet the housing need within our developed areas, exceptional circumstances exist which justify releasing sites which perform weakly against green belt criteria. Initially, we reviewed around 420 green belt sites, taking just 15 through to the Preferred Options stage.

We are now consulting on these 15 sites and urge people to get involved. The consultation closes on December 12 at 5pm.

We appreciate this is a complex subject, and people are being asked to absorb a lot of information.

The importance of this consultation is such that we have arranged 15 public events to ensure people get the full facts rather than rely on hearsay and rumour.

Those we’ve held so far have proved very successful.

Do come along to one of these exhibitions, make informed responses and be part of the process by which we are planning for our districts up until 2036.

More than 620 people attended the first five of our touring exhibitions, and we hope they will help us spread the word.

Static exhibitions are available to view at both Chiltern and South Bucks offices, and the information with a list of public events can be found at www.chiltern. or www.south
