Hot Tubb takes the winnings
PAUL Tubb got his hands on the dough as The Super Singles dart league staged its singles knockout at the Wooburn Club this week.
Tubb came through a format which saw four group winners play semi-finals before the best-of-fiveleg final saw him take glory and the cash prize.
Steve McLeod was dominant in group one without losing a leg, hitting a 180 in the process.
Tubb was pushed to the limit to win group two, where he and Pat O’Reilly finished level on points, meaning a sudden-death, one-leg shoot-out was required before the former advanced to the semi finals.
Leigh Ross saw off Marc Dellar and Leigh Brereton to win group three, while Rob Brereton emerged victor of a high-quality group four which included Mark Luckett, Blaine Jelly and Keith Carter.
Brereton’s good form continued as he edged out McLeod 3-2 in the first semi, but Tubb showed he was warming to the task by seeing off Ross 3-1.
The final was a classic with Brereton taking a 2-0 lead only for Tubb to storm back and take the last three legs and grab the honours.
■ CRESSEX teams stole the limelight with only Division Two sides in action in week five of the Wycombe and Amersham Darts League.
Cressex C now lead the standings by one point courtesy of a 12-2 drubbing of Bourne End CC, while their clubmates from the E team, led by skipper Mick Carlton, overpowered in-form Marsh Legion to win 10-4.
These sides, though, will be wary of Judo Club, who kept their status as the only unbeaten team in the league with a hard-fought 8-6 success over Holmer Green Legion C.
Newcomers The Squirrel are still without a win, but are getting closer after going down 8-6 at Holmer Green Legion B.
