AYLESBURY FLOOR OPPOSITION
TOP billing in the Chesham Sunday League fixture list went to Aylesbury Flooring hosting Chalfont Saints in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup tie – and the match certainly lived up to expectations.
Two goals from Vinny Greco, one of them a penalty, were cancelled out for Saints by Steve Parks and Charlie Kuehn, before Nick Gurney struck Aylesbury’s match winner to book a spot in the quarter finals, but only a last-gasp breathtaking save from Flooring keeper Ben Grasso prevented extra-time.
Flooring’s Premier Division rivals, Magpies 91, took full advantage in their league meeting with Dinamo Chequers to go four points clear at the top. However, Mags needed all their scoring power to overcome a spirited Dinamo side that netted four times, via Ciprian Chelsau, Steve Seage, Trevon Moora and Adam Dove.
The leaders eventually prevailed, scoring half a dozen to seal a vital 6-4 win and take the points thanks to a Ryan Welsh hat-trick and further goals from Dan Vegas-Holt, Joe Brittain and Paul Hyde.
In Division One, Tom Ford was another hat-trick hero as Chesham Athletic beat fellow strugglers Eldorado 6-2 at Chiltern Grange, with James Daly, Jim Eames and Adam Jamieson also on target. Craig Eden and Todd Mills replied for Eldorado.
A close-fought encounter saw Maclay squeeze past Pioneer Reserves 2-1, as goals from Peter Hay and Ian Ranger proved just enough to edge the match, although Matt Finch kept Pioneer in the hunt for a point until the whistle.
Stand-in keeper Jack Maynard, donning the gloves for the first time, had a superb game but could not prevent The Generals going down 4-2 to Aylesbury Fusion. Charlie Brooks bagged a brace for The Generals, adding to a Dale Lee strike, but two goals from Dan O’Sullivan and one apiece from Mikey Rodriguez and Callum Jenkins won it for Fusion.
There was disappointment for Black Horse as they crashed out of the Chesham Charity Cup 5-0 at Wycombe League opponents King George V, while league rivals Old Belmont Pugilists and Old Amersham faced off in the League Cup second round tie.
Shazaid Mirza notched a double for Premier Division outfit Pugilists but goals from Mikey Chapman, Bradley Lodge and Stuart Miles ensured an upset and sealed a memorable win for the Division One underdogs Amersham.
