Comedians stand up for cancer

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

COMEDY fans are in for a treat with an unmissable night of hilarious fun, raising money for two cancer charities.

Stand Up for Cancer will take place at The Elgiva, in Chesham, on Thursday March 16, and if you want to guarantee yourself a ticket, you had better get in quick.

Everyone’s favourite grumpy old man, Arthur Smith, joins Ninia Benjamin (pictured), one of the UK’s hottest comedians; Sol Bernstein, who is at his best when performing to drunks in smoky nightclubs; and new comedian of the year winner 2015, LJ Da Funk.

And if they were not enough, headlining is local legend Alex Horne and his band, the Horne Section. They will all be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Hospice of St Francis.

Organiser Mark Rann, said: “Cancer has touched many of our lives and the impact can be devastating. Luckily, organisations like Macmillan Cancer Support and the Hospice of St Francis are there to help people through what can be a terrifying ordeal.

“They do their work with a level of compassion and professionalism that’s truly humbling. So this is my small way of saying thank you.”

Lucy Hume, community fundraising manager for The Hospice of St Francis, said: “We are so grateful to Mark and his fellow organisers for putting on this event. We care for patients and their families throughout West Herts and South Bucks, and rely on voluntary donations to raise 80% of the over £5 million we need annually to fund our free care.”

Liz King, chairman of Gerrards Cross and Buckinghamshire South Fundraising Group, added: “It costs £1,012 to fund a Macmillan Nurse for a week.

“Macmillan is committed to ongoing investment in Buckinghamshire and money raised locally is spent locally, so more local people affected by cancer can access essential help from any of the hundred or so Macmillan healthcare professionals in the county. The funds raised at this event are vital and we thank all who are supporting it.”

Tickets cost £18 from The Elgiva box office on 01494 582900, or online at www.el
