TWO goals in the space of a minute saw Chalfont Wasps climb to third in Hellenic Division One East on New Year’s Eve.

Hosts Didcot Town Reserves took the lead when the unfortunate Michael Green put through his own net early on but two goals in 60 seconds just before the interval turned the game on its head.

Josh Urquhart scored from a closerange rebound a minute before the break and, right on the stroke of half time, Jack Pearce put Wasps in front with a cross-shot from the left flank.

With no further goals coming after the break, Wasps saw out a 2-1 win, while Chris Hurst scored the only goal of the game as leaders Penn & Tylers Green beat second-placed Woodley United.

In the Premier Division, Dan Rapley was the hat-trick hero as Flackwell Heath finished 2016 with a flourish by hammering Henley Town 7-1, with Joe Blount bagging a brace and Dan Bayliss and Jack Thomson-Wheeler also scoring.

Wasps host Sandhurst Town on Saturday while Penn welcome Chinnor. Flackwell also have home games, against Burnham on Saturday and against Bracknell Town, in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, on Tuesday night.

Over in the Spartan South Midlands League, goals from Gary Lines and Eliot Derby were not enough to prevent Holmer Green slipping closer to the Premier Division danger zone with a 4-2 defeat at Tring Athletic.

Chesham United Reserves lost to the only goal of the game against Winslow United in Division One while Amersham Town went down 3-1 at Aston Clinton in Division Two, despite a Nathan Kelly strike. Holmer visit Amersham in the Wycombe Senior Cup next Tuesday, before which they visit Grendon Rangers.

Chesham travel to Buckingham Town on Saturday.
