MICHAEL HANLL Bennetts Chesham

I was pleased to read the article about the complaint concerning the remnant street light stump in Eskdale Avenue (January 19, p10).

I have to negotiate this ugly hazard each day and quite a few months ago I wrote to the council about this hazard, enclosing a photo. I warned about the possible danger to young mothers with buggies (especially double buggies), to the elderly and the blind. I have received no acknowledgement or reply nor seen action.

It would be a very quick and easy job to remove this stump, and much cheaper for the council than the legal and compensation fees for a possible serious accident caused by this disgraceful, ugly hazard.
