Blast from the past
ELIZABETHANS will be duelling for your entertainment this May Bank Holiday weekend.
The family-friendly living history event at Chiltern Open Air Museum runs on Sunday and Monday and one of the highlights will be exciting displays of artillery, from the longbow to the gun.
Discover how the longbow gave way to the gun in the action-packed (and noisy) firepower display.
Children can also take part in the Children’s Bill Drill and see if they have got what it takes to become a member of the militia.
Visitors can learn what it was like to live in Elizabethan times, meet beautifully costumed re-enactors and visit the living history encampment, where people can watch historic cooking and Elizabethan crafts, enjoy historic music played on reproduction instruments and learn Elizabethan dancing.
The fun, educational day out for the family is suitable for all ages.
Go and explore the museum’s 45-acre site and rescued historic buildings and see history brought to life. See more at www. coam.org.uk.
