hav­ing lost an im­por­tant toss to Ship­ton un­der Wy­ch­wood on a rain-af­fected pitch, found them­selves in the par­lous po­si­tion of 70-8 at lunch.

Rain prompted an aban­don­ment with­out fur­ther re­sump­tion, to the ob­vi­ous dis­ap­point­ment of the visi­tors on Satur­day.

For Ship­ton, open­ing bowlers Anu­pam San­klecha (5-42) and Scott Har­ris (3-22) made the early in­roads in help­ful con­di­tions and con­tin­ued to bowl un­changed un­til lunch.

Only Robin Pritchard (17), Matt Rance (10) and Do­minic Good­man (16*) reached dou­ble fig­ures for the home team.

Good­man in par­tic­u­lar showed good tem­per­a­ment and tech­nique to sur­vive 41 balls.

Umar As­lam also held firm un­til the in­ter­val in spite of sel­dom lo­cat­ing the ball with his bat, con­tend­ing he was leav­ing the ball de­lib­er­ately.

As rain caused the aban­don­ment of all the Home Coun­ties League games Che­sham re­main third. All games in the Thames Val­ley League were also off.
