Another top 10 finish for Bucks foodie favourite
Review says it is a place that ‘gets everything right’
highly acclaimed Amersham restaurant has won even more critical recognition after it scooped a top 10 finish in a prestigious foodie award.
The Artichoke, on Market Square, Old Amersham, has been named the 10th best UK restaurant outside of London in the SquareMeal Best UK Restaurant of 2017 award.
The restaurant has already won a slew of industry awards, including a Rising Star in the 2011 Michelin Guide Now, and has featured in a number of ‘Best Of’ lists since it was first opened in 2002, achieving a top 30 finish in the UK in the Good Food Guide (GFG) for the past three years.
And the latest nod in the Square Meal list saw the restaurant lauded for consistently demonstrating the kind of quality and creativity “normally reserved for top-notch restaurants in London”.
The review on the guide’s website adds: “This place gets everything right, from the affable clued-up staff and allround entertainment value of a well-oiled open kitchen to the constantly evolving repertoire of eye- catching ideas reflecting the best seasonal produce.”
Reviewers were “blown away by Laurie’s [Gear - owner] gastronomic adventures”, adding: “This is technically refined, innovative stuff, but delivered without a shred of pomposity.
“In short, “truly outstanding”.”
Each year the website compiles a list of the top 100 restaurants outside London, with thousands of readers taking part in the search to find the best.
The website says: “Whether at a white-tableclothed bastion of formal fine dining, a gastropub serving some of the tastiest food in the county, or a casual, city-centre Asian café, a meal in any of these restaurants will be among the very best eating experiences you will find in the UK today.”
Mr Gear said: “The Artichoke is delighted to among such esteemed company in the BMW Square Meal Award 10 UK Restaurant.
“It has always been our ambition to be recognised as one of the best independent neighbourhood restaurants in the country and this prestigious award reflects all the hard work and dedication that the team have shown.”
