Langford knock Amersham out of FA Vase despite taking lead
AMERSHAM Town were knocked out of the FA Vase by Langford on Saturday.
The 3-1 final score implies it was an easy victory for the Division One side, but it was Amersham who took the lead with the first goal of the game.
Langford started stronger and only a brave block from Amersham goalkeeper David Turner kept them at bay in the eighth minute.
Town then took control of the game and Tom Parry did well to drive to the byline before laying off to Sheldon Washington, but his volley came back off the bar.
Amersham bagged the opener four minutes before half time. Washington beat his man on the right and his shot was deflected into the path of Isaac Asari, who beat Langford keeper Billy Welch from a tight angle.
Town’s lead did not last long into the second half, however, when Asari turned the ball into his own net from a Langford corner.
They pressed for a second and took the lead in the 70th minute when a long ball from the left was headed back across goal by Dan Harper and volleyed by Joe Zungvzah, giving Turner no chance.
Langford made the game safe in the second minute of injury time when Ben L’Honore chipped his shot over Turner and into the far corner of the net.
Amersham host Aston Clinton next Saturday in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, kick off 3pm.
