Star Wars director will be back at Pinewood
JJ Abrams will co-write and direct Episode IX
EMMY-AWARD winning JJ Abrams is returning to Pinewood Studios to direct the latest instalment of the Star Wars franchise.
Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars films when he directed its predecessor The Force Awakens in 2015, will also co-write Star Wars: Episode IX with Chris Terrio.
He replaces previous director Colin Trevorrow, who quit the film over dif- ferent ‘visions’ with Lucasfilm.
Filming for Star Wars Episode IX is expected to take place at Pinewood Studios, in Iver, with scheduled released date of December 20, 2019.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said: “With The Force Awakens, JJ delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.”
Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.
A statement about Trevorrow on Lucasfilm’s website reads: “Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX.
“Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ.
“We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
