However small your plot, there’s a crop to help put great food on your plate this year

Fruit, veg and herbs that are easy to grow successfully even in the smallest of spaces

Glossy packets of vegetable seeds are beginning to appear in our supermarkets and garden centres – an A to Z of produce with enticing pictures on the front and growing guides on the back.

With so much choice, whether in shops, catalogues or online, it can be hard to decide which crop is best for you.

For many people, outdoor space is limited, sometimes confined to a small courtyard or balcony area. Plus, there are competing demands on that space for relaxation or dining, with an outdoor table and chairs, or for growing ornamental plants.

So realistically, unless you have a large plot or space in an allotment, you should consider growing crops that you like to eat, won’t take up a huge amount of room, are easy to cultivate, and will give a good yield.

Here’s my guide…

You don’t need loads of space to get growing
