UAE poised to launch Hope mis­sion to Mars

The United Arab Emi­rates’ bid to build its post-oil econ­omy will move for­ward with the launch of its first mis­sion to Mars to­mor­row. The Gulf na­tion will be­come only the fifth coun­try to send a space­craft to Mars. The $200m (£155.9m) probe – named Al Amal, or “Hope” – will em­bark on a 306 mil­lion mile, seven-month trip to the red planet to col­lect weather data.
