Surely the end. Scores of 18 and 29 took his av­er­age be­low 30 af­ter 15 Tests. It would have been such a tri­umph if Denly had en­joyed a later flow­er­ing at 34 but it has not worked. Time to move on.

For the fifth suc­ces­sive match he im­proved his best Test score. His 72 was com­posed af­ter a cou­ple of early scares and even though he is not the fin­ished ar­ti­cle, Craw­ley de­serves to move to three when Root re­turns.

Tried too hard to im­pose him­self in the first in­nings and his exit sparked Satur­day evening’s col­lapse. Han­dled play­ers well, but a lit­tle too quick to spread the field in the West Indies run chase and un­der­bowled him­self.
