Pickford or­dered to im­prove as Ancelotti seeks Ever­ton re­ac­tion

Ever­ton man­ager Carlo Ancelotti has told goal­keeper Jor­dan Pickford he “must do bet­ter” af­ter a se­ries of poor per­for­mances since the Pre­mier League restart.

Ancelotti in­sisted he had faith in the 26-year-old and there is no im­me­di­ate threat to his po­si­tion. How­ever, he re­vealed de­tails of a face-to-face chat with Pickford in the af­ter­math of Ever­ton’s dis­mal 3-0 week­end de­feat by Wolves.

“I know he is not do­ing well,” said Ancelotti, who has de­manded a bet­ter at­ti­tude from his side against As­ton Villa tonight af­ter an alarm­ing re­verse in form over the last three games. “He has to fo­cus on him­self, on his per­for­mance and day by day to be bet­ter. He has qual­ity and char­ac­ter but I said to him, he has to im­prove. He knows this be­cause he is crit­i­cal of him­self.”
