Real Madrid clinch La Liga title with win over Villarreal

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti at least had something to smile about last night, as his former club Real Madrid sealed the Spanish league title with a 2-1 victory over Villarreal at the Bernabeu.

Zinedine Zidane’s side have been in sensational form since the restart, winning all of their 10 matches since La Liga returned in mid-June.

They have been led, as ever, by buccaneering captain Sergio Ramos, who has scored five goals from centre-back since the restart.

Karim Benzema has also been in fine form in recent weeks. The Frenchman struck twice last night, making it three games in a row in which he has found the net.

There was once again no place for Gareth Bale in the Madrid team. The Welshman has played only 100 minutes of football since the return from lockdown, and has been seen pretending to fall asleep while on the bench and then making a binoculars gesture toward the pitch.
